High School Celebrates LEGEND Trilogy

Marie Lu visited Segerstrom High School in Santa Ana, CA today and was met by a whirlwind of creativity from the students!

Check out how they expressed their love for LEGEND!

Way to go, Segerstrom!

LEGEND Fan Art: Day and June

We know there are some ridiculously talented artists out there in the fandom, but we were really struck by this collaboration  between Ari and Brynne depicting Day and June in a lovestruck moment!

LEGEND Fan Art: Day, by Cassandra Jean

Cassandra Jean hasn’t finished reading the books, but that didn’t stop her from creating this amazingly beautiful image of Daniel “Day” Wing!

I adore Cassandra Jean’s artistic style, and her art is very well known in the The Mortal Instruments community as she’s created so many images of the characters from Cassandra Clare’s multiple series’.  I’m glad that she’s taken up another series, though, and I hope that we get to see more of her fan art of the characters from the Legend series as well!  I mean, who wouldn’t want more images of Day or June, right?

‘LEGEND’ Fan Art: “Legend – Day” by ~walkingnorth

With such awesome characters like Daniel “Day” Wing to grace the pages of the ‘Legend’ trilogy, it’s not wonder that we want to walk in the light of him.  And now that the sequel, ‘Prodigy,’ debuted at #2 in the New York Times Bestseller List, I’m hoping we’ll get more art depicting this character, his love interest, June Iparis, and pretty much anyone else in the books.

Lena Duchannes, Melanie Stryder, & June Make the List of The 13 Heroines Who’ll Make 2013 Kick Ass

It’s not like we don’t know this already, but since it’s being posted from VH1, maybe more people will take notice.  I’m pretty happy with who they’ve picked, but I think there’s at least one more that easily should’ve made the list.  But hey, I could make my own list I suppose.  Anyway, here’s what VH1 had to say about Lena Duchannes, Melanie Stryder/Wanderer, and June Iparis, as well as the other girls on the list:

Meet Alden Ehrenreich and Alice Englert, the Stars of 'Beautiful Creatures' | TeenVogue.com

Lena Duchannes (Alice Englert) from ‘Beautiful Creatures’

It’s going to be a great year for heroines in movies, on TV and in books — but not necessarily the easy-to-love/worship kind. Jennifer Lawrence‘s Katniss Everdeen (this year in Catching Fire), The Americans‘ Elizabeth (Keri Russell), Beautiful CreaturesLena [Duchannes] (Alice Englert) and The Great Gatsby’s Daisy (Carey Mulligan) are complex women and girls who don’t automatically know what’s right, and sometimes they have to choose saving themselves over saving the world.

Shadow and Bone features Alina Starkov

The Mortal Instruments‘ Clary Fray (Lily Collins), Shadow and Bone’s Alina, Delirium’s Lena [Haloway] and Warm Bodies‘ Julie (Teresa Palmer) have a little self-discovery to do before they become full-fledged heroines.

June Iparis from Legend – art by author Marie Lu

The Legend Trilogy’s June and The Host’s Wanderer/Melanie (Saoirse Ronan) have to navigate between worlds to figure out whom to fight for. And Oz‘s Glinda (Michelle Williams) and Ender’s Game’s Petra [Arkanian] (Hailee Steinfeld) are ladies whose strength is obvious, but whose roles in the bigger picture remains to be seen. As for Chloe Moretz’s Hit Girl, who returns in this summer’s Kick-Ass 2 — she’s always going to be in a category all her own.

Saoirse Ronan as Melanie Stryder

2013 will certainly be a big deal for female protagonists.  And I’d also like to add in Tessa Gray from The Infernal Devices trilogy.  Sure, she’s not the kick-ass in the general sense, but she definitely has some turmoil ahead of her, both in finding out what she is and in love.  Not easy.

Prodigy, book two of the Legend trilogy by Marie Lu, is scheduled to be released next week (January 29, 2013).  Here is one of the main characters, drawn by the author herself!  I can say that this truly the perfect version of how I imagined Day to look like, and I’m not saying that because it’s drawn by Marie.  I just love how she was able to give him just the right amount of Asian features in his appearance.  There truly aren’t enough unique characters like him, both physically and characteristically.

If you haven’t read Legend yet, then I highly recommend that you do.  For those of you who are anticipating Prodigy, well, you can read my review of it here.  No spoilers, I promise.

LEGEND Fan Art: June Iparis by ~walkingnorth

This is one tough girl.  It would be interesting to see how they would create such a dystopian steampunk world.  It’s a good book, too.  Read it!
